Expo Highlights

MDDExpo will feature a two-day educational, promotional and networking conference as well as a partnering event for medical manufacturing companies. Developed in conjunction with Stanford Biodesign and The Foundry, MDDExpo addresses a three part agenda:

1. How to identify the trend in next generation technologies
2. How to develop and implement best practices
3. Facilitating process improvement.

MDDExpo is the annual "must attend" forum for medical device companies interested in expanding their customer base and range of knowledge by tapping into the Bay Area market, the largest concentration of medical device manufacturers in the world.

Key elements of our multi-faceted and hands on program include:

Presentation by The Foundry President and CEO, Hanson Gifford. Mr. Gifford is a co-inventor on over 80 issued U.S. patents and more than 100 pending US patents, and will share his experience with invention, identification and early development of new technologies, the formation, financing, staffing and growth of new companies. The Foundry is the premier medical device incubator with a proven track record of success in the Bay Area.

Presentation by Mark Saab, President of Advanced Polymers, the industry leader in producing the world's thinnest, strongest, and smallest heat shrink tubing. Mr. Saab will discuss “What's new in medical balloon technology”. The talk will cover compliant, semi-compliant and non-compliant balloon technology and applications.

Presentation by Ted Kucklick, author. The Medical Device R&D Handbook is an index of resources for the efficient development of medical devices, and interviews with leaders and legends in the medical device business. Ted will share some of the key take-away lessons he learned while writing the book, not only in how to effectively use technology to develop medical devices but key insights and pearls shared by industry leaders in exclusive interviews.

Presentation by Deven Patel, Marketing Manager for Ticona Engineering Polymers. Mr. Patel has over 16 years of experience in the plastics industry in marketing, sales, product management and manufacturing. Prior to his role as Marketing Manager for Ticona, he was in marketing and product management roles at GE Plastics. He served on the board of directors for SPE-Thermoplastic Materials Division and SPI-International Trade Advisory Committee and is a member of Society of Plastics Engineers.

Presentation by the Biodesign Innovation Program at Stanford University, including Venita Chandra, and James Wall. Speakers will discuss ways to identify new opportunities for innovation, to assess clinical needs and market potential and to take the critical first steps in the invention, patenting, early prototyping, and development of new concepts.

Presentation by Tom Kannally, Medical Industry Manager for Hypertronics Corporation. Continuous advances in the medical device industry require that suppliers adapt to changing requirements for materials, functionality, size, weight and aesthetics. In this forum, Tom Kannally will discuss new trends in high reliability interconnect solutions for demanding medical applications such as implantable, non-magnetic, shielded and hybrid solutions.
