Venita completed her undergraduate training in genetics and cell biology at the University of Minnesota, where she pursued gene-therapy and molecular biology research for chronic myelogenous leukemia. She then went on to pursue her medical education at the University of Chicago. Following medical school she began general surgery residency at Stanford University Hospital and Clinics where she has completed two years of training. As a surgical resident her research interests include image-guided therapies, surgical simulation and education, and minimal access surgery and its application in the pediatric population.
